Standing in Solidarity

GW GEOGRAPHY STANDS IN SOLIDARITY WITH THOSE RESISTING OPPRESSION

GW Geography is a diverse community with representation from many countries, racial and ethnic groups, gender identities, and political perspectives. Our research and teaching embrace social justice and diversity because we believe in a pluralistic society and are committed to justice for all peoples.

We stand in solidarity with Black Lives Matter, our Black and racialized students, and all people calling for racial justice.

We stand against police brutality directed at Black people in the United States, including the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, and countless others.

We stand against violence directed at protesters exercising their constitutional rights.

As a department and community, we commit ourselves to taking action to advance a more just, equitable, sustainable and fair world.
