Maya O'Brien recently graduated from GW’s Geography & Environment department with her master’s and GIS certificate. She completed a master’s thesis focused on mapping and migration via the US-Mexico border and was a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Cartography and GIS. Before GW, she worked at Esri for five years as a Technical Consultant specializing in data analysis, cartography, and web/mobile app configuration. Before Esri, she graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in Geography & Environmental Studies and a minor in GIS&T.

This semester, she is teaching Geovisualization & Cartography (Fall 2025) and next semester she will teach Geovisualization & Cartography and Geographic Information Systems II (Spring 2026).
