Kyle Svingen
Kyle teaches Cities and Societies, where students explore how urban areas in North America have been transformed by economic, political, social, and cultural forces in recent decades.
He is also an Assistant Director at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. At HUD, he supports communities as they recover from natural disasters through the Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program. Previously, he served as Senior Advisor in the Office of Community Planning and Development - Office of Grant Programs. Before joining HUD, Kyle spent his career in public education. He became a high school teacher in Oakland, CA through the Teach for America program, and then worked in the budget office of Chicago Public Schools.
Kyle holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in Education from Loyola Marymount University, and a B.A. from St. Olaf College. He lives in Northeast DC with his wife and two daughters.
