John is a GIS professional with a passion for geospatial problem solving and storytelling. After finishing up his undergraduate studies in Geography & Environmental Studies and Public Policy at William & Mary, he worked several years with the great City of Newport News, Virginia as part of their GIS Division. There he had the opportunity to learn and get his hands dirty working on projects ranging from environmental drone surveys to asset management database and application design. He recently graduated from GW’s Geography & Environment department with a MS and GIS certificate and worked for the department as a Graduate Instructional Assistant for the Introduction to Cartography and GIS course. While at GW he completed a thesis on outdoor recreation-caused trail degradation in northern New Mexico's Philmont Scout Ranch using high resolution drone imagery. He also served as the GIS Coordinator in Philmont's Conservation Department while conducting his thesis research. He is starting a GIS Analyst position with the International Association of Fire Fighters this fall. Outside of making maps, John is an avid hiker, musician, and hackysacker.
