Joel Masselink

Joel Masselink teaches Geovisualization and Cartography. As a broadly-trained GIS professional, he teaches this class to focus on practical cartographic techniques using a variety of software tools and public domain datasets.

He has a passion for using GIS and cartography to spur environmental action. He studied GIS as an undergrad at James Madison University and as a graduate student at Clark University. While at Clark, he interned with the US Agency for International Development’s Central Africa Regional Program for the Environment (USAID/CARPE) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. After graduating from Clark, he returned to the DRC to work with Wildlife Conservation Society. He has since worked in a variety of organizations spanning international development, philanthropy, nonprofits, and federal contractors. He is involved with the Society for Conservation GIS.
